Obviously, you’d have to be over a ‘certain age’ to even know what we’re talking about here, but for those of you who are, it was an incredible thing!
The Motorola M301 was an artefact from ‘back in the day’ when only the coolest of the cool even owned a mobile phone, let alone took it out and about in
their day to day life. It was the iPhone 6 of its day - a must have item that let everyone know just how ‘on trend’ you were.
Despite being the iPhone 6, industry leader of its day, compared to our current smartphones, there are many areas the Motorola M301 fell short… for one,
the sheer look and feel of the thing! If anyone remembers Dom Joly’s ‘Trigger Happy TV’ sketch, with the guy holding a gigantic flip phone and bellowing
“I’M ON THE PHONE”, when you look back, the Motorola M301 wasn’t that far off! Obviously we’re exaggerating a bit, but it was fairly sizeable and wasn’t
the kind of device you could pop into your pocket, or even your clutch bag as you nip out of the door. It was the ultimate ‘Brick’, which, for many, was
part of its appeal. After all, what would be the point of having such a sophisticated and fashionable item if no-one knew you had it?
Another exciting feature was the range of (or lack of) ring tones! The M301 offered just the one tone, with the choice of low, medium or high. Or
inaudible, socially acceptable or blatantly attention seeking - which are more accurate descriptions of the options! There was also the lengthy aerial,
which was necessary to fully extend before attempting to accept or make a call. On the plus note, it could also be used in self-defence, if someone had
dared to try to confront an M301 owner!
But there was one feature of the M301 that put it in a league of its own – and it’s an attribute that is even relevant today. The Motorola M301 came with
not one, but two lithium ion batteries! The manufacturers at the time realised the value of having a spare power supply, to make
sure that their tech-savvy customers were never without their gadget.
For those not privileged enough to be around during those hazy days, notice the Motorola M301 image below:-
At USB-Extra, we love this idea, and we know that you and your clients will too. As the first UK company to sell branded portable chargers, we knew as soon as we came across the concept
that it was a winning one. At USB-Extra, we provide personalised power banks to companies, charities, schools and any other organisations who see the value
of the item. With the branded portable charger power bank, you can provide a service to smartphone owners that Motorola M301 manufacturers thought was a
fantastic idea. The only difference is, this battery supply will have your company logo on it. Sadly, you rarely even see a Motorola now, but the concept
of a second lithium battery supply is one that will long outlast the M301, through the medium of the promotional mobile portable charger!
